LISMORE mayor Jenny Dowell says she loves her new hybrid car festooned with love hearts and feels very lucky to be able to drive around town spreading the love.

"I'm not just wearing my heart on my sleeve - I'm wearing it on my car bonnet and boot as well!" she laughed.

Cr Dowell's new car is a Toyota Camry hybrid and has been adorned with even bigger and brighter logos than her previous vehicle, promoting Lismore's 'Heart of the Northern Rivers' branding.

In a fitting twist, the car arrived the day after a motion put forward by Cr Greg Bennett was passed by the council to buy Australian manufactured vehicles whenever practicable.

The Toyota Camry hybrid is an Australian car.

"The fact it's a hybrid is great… I do a lot of driving around the region. Having a hybrid sends a message that Council and I have a commitment to sustainability, not just in what we say but what we do," Cr Dowell said.

"I'm very pleased to be able to drive around and promote Lismore in such a positive way."
