Tests give water the all-clear

A DISCREPANCY in water analysis test results has created a lot of uncertainty for one Evans Head resident.

A DISCREPANCY in water analysis test results has created a lot of uncertainty for one Evans Head resident.

Jon Lawrence had a water sample taken from a puddle in front of his Ocean Drive house tested after two years of fighting with the council and Telstra about what was causing the murky mess.

The results revealed high levels of faecal coliform in the water and it was deemed a health risk.

The Richmond Valley Council recently did its own testing of the water and those results revealed the water, which sits in a stormwater drain, had only 40 parts of faecal coliform in the water, compared with Mr Lawrence’s results that found 7000 parts of faecal coliform in the water.

Council’s director of environmental development services, Ken Exley, said the water did not pose a ‘public health risk’ and that the faecal coliform levels shown would be expected to be found in a stormwater drain.
