Talks monitor town's changing face

ALSTONVILLE’S Main Street was on the agenda when representatives of the area’s Chamber of Commerce and Ballina Council met on Tuesday.

They discussed progress of the Main Street road works, the Alstonville bypass project and the chamber’s new image.

“The Main Street works in Alstonville affects them (the residents) more than the bypass does,” Chamber of Commerce president Peter Mehan said.

“In relation to the bypass, there were questions asked about the gateway treatment and signage and how it will look visually. We also talked about the positive outcomes the bypass will bring when it is finished as it may alleviate some of the traffic going through Teven Road.”

Drainage and guttering works on the northern side of Main Street have been completed and the works on the southern side are set to start in two-three weeks.

Chamber vice-president Les Wiles said the representatives were content with the schedule and believed ‘it will not cause any major disruption to businesses’.

The Chamber of Commerce has also revealed its new logo which, through it’s representation of rolling hills, plateau epicentre and earthy colours, aims to encapsulate the Alstonville-Wollongbar area.
