Subsidised gardening workshops

Move2Change gardening workshops are part of a Lismore City Council project funded through a Federal Government Healthy Communities grant.

TERRY Lawrence just loves getting her hands dirty.

That's why she can't wait to start running the new gardening workshops at the Lismore Community Garden.

"I've coordinated the Community Garden since it opened in 2010 and I just love seeing people start to smile when they get their hands in the dirt", said Ms Lawrence.

"The workshops have been a dream of mine for some time. We'll spend the first hour on fun things like composting, creating no-dig beds and worm farming, and in the second hour we'll harvest from the gardens, share a healthy lunch and talk about healthy eating.

The gardening workshops are part of Move2Change, a Lismore City Council project funded through a Federal Government Healthy Communities grant.

"Move2Change is jam packed with physical activity and healthy eating programs for our local government area", said Tarryn Corlet, Lismore City Council Healthy Communities Coordinator.

"We have light exercise to suit seniors, people with diabetes or heart disease or, anyone who hasn't exercised in a while. And now that the weather's warming up it's a great time to get inspired in the garden," she said.

The gardening workshops and all other Move2Change programs are available for a gold coin donation for adults who are unemployed, over 55, Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, refugees, culturally and linguistically diverse, living with a disability or carers.
