Don't miss out on the headlines from Lismore. Followed categories will be added to My News.
WE'VE been heartened and encouraged by some recent campaign successes including the rail trail, funding for dementia services and the huge effort to help get Jackson Byrnes life-saving surgery.
Emboldened by these wins we are also planning to roll out several other campaigns in the coming weeks.
Another initiative about to become a reality is something that has been swirling around in my brain for the past couple of years.
It has a working title "Adopt a Journalist" but that could change if I can think of something cleverer.
By using the word "adopt" I don't mean people literally taking a journalist into their own homes and feeding them, although some of them could use a good feed.
Far from it.
What I want is for each of the journos in the newsroom to help a list of non-profit community groups with their publicity, to be their main contact at the newspaper and conduit to provide better coverage.
Down the track we'd also like to run a workshop here at the newspaper that may help your community group better shape media releases and target and present information.
With the campaigns we have waged so far this year, and won, we've proven the power to change things is possible with the support of our community.
We'd like to make it easier for you to do the same.
What we need right now is for non-profit organisations to Adopt a Journalist by writing or emailing at the contact points which are all listed above.
Just tell us a little about your group and your aims and who to contact and we will try and help.
Together we're going to build a better Northern Rivers.
