It will have been two years between grand finals by the time the Northern Rivers Regional Rugby League competition reaches its climax for the 2022 season.

Group 2 teams have had to wait even longer having had their last big dance in 2019.

Covid-19 has shattered the footy dreams of grassroots players and fans up and down the North Coast, but 2022 is set to be the year where it all gets back on track.

With Northern Rivers competition adding more incredible talent and Group 2 expanding to nine teams, this season is set to be the best since the beginning of the pandemic.

NRL big-hitters Sam Burgess, Greg Inglis, Todd Carney and Chris Sandow will be sprinkled throughout the competitions with their sides hoping they can break the stranglehold that Ballina Seagulls, Grafton Ghosts and South Grafton Rebels have over North Coast footy.

The Seagulls are reigning Norther Rivers champions and have won six of the last nine premierships while the two Grafton sides share five of the last six Group 2 grand final wins.

The grand final experience will belatedly return to the North Coast and what better way to celebrate it than with a gallery of the greatest moments from NRRRL and Group 2 grand final history.
