SUPERMOON SKYDIVE: An outstanding opportunity to skydive by the light of the final supermoon over Byron Bay will occur on May 26, 2021.

On Wednesday night around 16 people will skydive above the Northern Rivers by the luminous light of the supermoon and one person will make her 200th jump.

Skydive Byron Bay Drop Zone manager Juli Marshall Cole said there will be four people making tandem jumps and between eight and 10 instructors leaping out into the darkness to enjoy a spectacular view of the supermoon.

A supermoon occurs when a full moon coincides with the moon’s closest approach to earth, in this case it will be around 40,000km closer than normal.

Ms Marshall Cole said those skydiving were in for an exciting occasion on Wednesday.

“We have four tandems including one of our volunteers Giselle, who will be making her 200th tandem jump,” she said.

“The supermoon skydive has not been done before.”

Ms Marshall Cole said the Cessna Grand Caravan will take off from Ballina Airport around 7pm.

“We anticipate the jump will occur around 7.30pm and the weather conditions look like it will be perfect, no cloud, no wind and great visibility.

“We are taking off from Ballina Airport so we do not disturb people at Tyagarah we usually fly out of,” she said.

Ms Marshall Cole said the supermoon jump will occur on the final supermoon night for 2021.

According to the Skydive Byron Bay social media, participants can “drop from an extreme altitude of up to 14,000ft and free fall at over 200 km/hr for up to an insane 60 seconds, then float under canopy over Byron Bay for five to seven minutes soaking up spectacular beach and hinterland views all the way to Brisbane, the Gold Coast and beyond.”

It is understood that skydiving costs are from $460p/p.
