NSW records 608 COVID cases as downward trend continues

One person has been confirmed to have been taken to hospital after contracting the Delta strain of Covid-19 on the North Coast.

Northern NSW Local Health District acting chief executive Lynne Weir said the person was one of 38 cases confirmed in Northern NSW.

She said the patient was in a stable condition.

Five cases were in the Casino area of the Richmond Valley and one case was in the Kyogle area.

Ms Weir said three were household contacts of confirmed cases who had been self-isolating, one was linked to a public exposure location and the source of the remaining two cases was under investigation.

“Investigations are continuing into any possible public venues of concern relating to these cases and other cases reported in recent days, and more information will be provided as soon as it’s available,” Ms Weir said.

Those six cases were part of a total of 608 reported across the state by NSW Health’s Dr Jeremy McAnulty during an update on Tuesday.

He said NSW Health administered 10,741 Covid-19 vaccines in the 24 hours to 8pm Monday.

Across NSW, 88.5 per cent of people aged 16 and over have received a first dose of Covid-19 vaccine and 67.5 per cent were fully vaccinated to 11.59pm on Sunday, October 3.

Lismore and Kyogle council areas as well as the township of Casino are in seven-day lockdowns, with the areas dropped from the Queensland border bubble from 1am on Tuesday.

The government reported the deaths of seven people – six men and one woman, none of them from Northern NSW.

One person was in their 50s, two people were in their 60s, three people were in their 70s, and one person was in their 80s.

Queensland recorded two new locally acquired Covid-19 cases, but Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said they were not of particular concern.

Meanwhile, Ms Palaszczuk announced Dr Krispin Hajkowicz as the new chief health officer from November 1.

She will replace Dr Jeannette Young, who will take the role as Queensland’s Governor.

Victoria recorded 1763 locally acquired cases to 8pm Monday.
