Readers weigh in on how to solve Bruxner Hwy intersection worry

While several levels of government have suddenly responded to community concerns regarding a Bruxner Hwy intersection, our readers give their suggestions on how to fix the problem.

After a serious crash near the intersection of Bruxner Hwy and Lindendale Rd, Wollongbar, authorities have promised to find a solution.

Northern Rivers residents have called on a local council, politicians and Transport for NSW to fix an intersection which they claim was jeopardising the safety of thousands of motorists who use the road each day.

The corner of Lindendale and Bruxner Hwy has long been an area of concern for local residents, including Peter Ball and Grace Donaldson, who said the community was sick and tired of a lack of action from all levels of politics.

But on Tuesday, Ballina Shire Council, Minister Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole and Ballina MP Tamara Smith, agreed funding and plans to improve the intersection’s safety have been announced.

But what should be done to make the intersection safe?

Luke Schinder – “Put a merging lane for traffic coming out of Convery and Lindendale lanes way too many vehicles have near accidents trying to navigate two lanes of traffic doing 80 km an hour and trying to merge into them.”

Leanne Gough – “That road need to have reduced speed limit.”

Bill Slade “Time for a four lane divided main road … surely the amount of traffic justifies the expenditure. I am sure if it was in Sydney, Wollongong or Newcastle it would be done quick smart!”

John Graham – “For all the people saying roundabout, the speed would have to be reduced to 60km/h … that would make to 60 limit for Lismore start there … so let’s make the whole road 60 km/h from Ballina to Lismore then … better still, let’s go back to having a person walking in front of a car waving a red flag.”

Sar Dawso – “That intersection is a nightmare trying to get on it especially if your trying to go towards Ballina sometimes you be waiting up to half-hour especially in peak hour.”
