Plans for a new creekside campground at a property west of Woodburn have been lodged with Richmond Valley Council.

The 76ha property, on Bungawalbin Whiporie Rd at Bungawalbin, would have 14 bush campsites.

A maximum of five people would be allowed at each site, meaning only 70 people would be at the campground at any one time.

Primitive camping at the site was trialled over the Christmas period with a “positive” response.

According to the report lodged with the council, the campsites would be established in three separate and cleared locations on the property.

“Camp 1 will be located centrally on the property adjacent to the existing shed,” the report states.

“This camp area will accommodate a total of two sites and a maximum of 10 people.

“Camp 1 will not have immediate access to amenities and will be intended for use by self-sufficient campers.

“Camp 2 will be located in the north western portion of the land and will accommodate up to 50 people within 10 camp sites and will also have amenities.

“These amenities will consist of four toilets in a shared amenities building.

“Water tanks will be required for flushing, however disinfectant is proposed for hand washing, rather than water, to reduce water demand for the site.

“The onsite services will not include potable water tanks for drinking.

“The operator will however provide bottled water for campers.

“Camp 3 will be located in the southern portion of the land and will accommodate 10 people within two sites.

“This camping area will intended for use by self-sufficient campers only including grey water tanks.”

To keep noise to a minimum, the property owner has outlined a number of rules for the campground, which will be named Northern Rivers Bush Camp.

These include speed limits on the farm, no loud parties after 10pm, no barking dogs, no unregistered cars or motorbikes, no fireworks and no firearms.
