THE former site of Toowoomba’s RSPCA animal shelter has reportedly sold to a local investor.

Colliers International announced the sale of the 3000 sqm property on Vanity St in Rockville, which had been the base of the RSPCA’s operations in the Darling Downs for more than 50 years prior to moving to a new facility at Wellcamp.

Agent Justin Eastwell wouldn’t reveal the name of the buyer or price for the sale, but said the property had received plenty of interest prior to settling.

“I did have quite a number of inquiries, a number of offers from it,” he said.

“There were two contracts on it, one fell over and now this one has settled.”

The property had been on the market for several months through an expressions of interest before the sale went ahead.

“The property has been used as an animal shelter to service the Toowoomba region and is improved with a number of structures on the allotment including a post war gable house and numerous kennels and storerooms that could be re-purposed or demolished,” the online listing read.

RSPCA Queensland CEO Darren Maier told The Chronicle in February money made from a sale of the old property would go back into running the new facility.

“That will help us raise money to continue to put into the costs of running this facility and continue to grow it,” he said.
