Power cut to more than 700 Northern Rivers homes

The power went out this afternoon just after 2.30pm, impacting more than 700 homes on the Northern Rivers. Power has now been restored to most homes, 37 were still without power.

Update 4.20pm: Urgent repairs required power to be cut to more than 700 homes this afternoon.

Essential Energy Operations Manager Ranges, Paul McWilliam, said Essential Energy identified this afternoon that urgent repairs to the electricity network were needed near Koonorigan Road

“Crews were able to isolate the fault and restore power to majority of customers within the hour and are working as quickly as safety will allow, to get the power back on to the remaining 37 customers,” Mr McWilliam said.

“Essential Energy apologies for any inconvenience and reminds anyone who sees fallen or damaged powerlines or power poles to stay at least eight metres away from the site and call Essential Energy immediately,” Mr McWilliam said.

Original story: Power was lost to more than 700 homes north of Lismore this afternoon, and while electricity has been restored to most, 37 remain without power.

The power was cut just after 2.30pm, with Essential Energy saying it was caused by downed powerlines.

The outage affected homes at The Channon, Coffee Camp, Stony Chute, Nimbin, the outskirts of Dunoon.

The power was still out at houses northwest of The Channon.
