Police operation: Man taken to Lismore Base Hospital after shooting at Nimbin
An ambulance crew was called to the Northern Rivers town just after noon to assist the man, who was then transported to Lismore.

Update, 3pm: The principal of Nimbin Central School has confirmed that all students and staff are safe after this afternoon’s shooting incident.
The school is in Thorburn Street, where a man was shot in the leg just after 12pm today.
School princpal Cath Marshall took to social media in an effort to alleviate parents’ concerns.
“I understand that there are some concerns regarding the safety of the students at Nimbin Central this afternoon,” she wrote.
“All students and the school community are safe and in no danger.
“Police will inform us immediately if this situation changes for us to take appropriate action.”
Initial story: A man has been shot in the leg in Nimbin on Friday and a police operation is under way.
A NSW Police spokeswoman confirmed about midday on Friday July 30, emergency services were called to Thorburn Street, Nimbin, after reports of gunshots.
“Upon arrival, police located a man in his 20s with a gunshot wound to the leg,” she said.
“He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being transported to Lismore Base Hospital in a stable condition; his injuries are not considered life-threatening.”
Officers from Richmond Police District have commenced inquiries into the incident.
A NSW Ambulance spokesman confirmed a man in his 20s was taken by paramedics by road to Lismore Base Hospital on Friday.
“We were called just after noon to Thorburn St,” he said.
“The man presented a wound to his lower limb.”
Nimbin residents have offered their version of what they have seen in the picturesque town today online via community board Nimbin Hookups.
Ava Bishop said she heard a “loud bang” near her place in Thorburn Street.
“Staying put... too scary,” she wrote.
Heidi Wolfe: “It (happened) further up towards the school. About 200m from me … no one on this side knows anything … feels awful. Hope everyone is okay.”
Sky Hallet: “Heard what sounded like a gun shot nearby on Thorburn Street. Thought I must have misheard the sound.”
Lucas Quaresimin: “Someone was shot. Kids about with guns. Someone shot my cow the other day too.”
Other locals reported someone had been shot in both legs, describing the situation as “very scary” and ”bizarre”.
