A woman was flown by the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter and transported to the Gold Hospital after being attacked and suffering serious stab wounds at a property in a Northern Rivers village on Friday morning.

It is understood that officers from Richmond Police Distirct were called to a residence on Rayward Rd, Dunoon, before dawn on Friday, May 4, where they found the woman has been stabbed in the shoulder.

Ambulance NSW confirmed paramedics were called to attend the incident at the village, which is 20kn of Lismore.

Paramedics treated the women for shoulder wounds before she was stabilised and transported to receive furter treatment in Queensland.

Police arrested a man later on Friday afternoon.

He will appear at Lismore Court on Monday, May 7.

Rayward Rd, Dunoon was the scene of a shooting in March this year, but police said they did not believe the two incidents were connected.
