A Casino man who threatened to burn down the house where he and his partner lived in a spate of shocking DV crimes has been warned by a court.

Troy Martin Walker, 29, pleaded guilty in Lismore Local Court on Monday to a series of domestic violence offences including three counts of intentionally destroying property, two counts of threatening to destroy property, common assault, two counts of stalking/intimidation and contravening an apprehended violence order.

According to court facts, the charges relate to two incidents – one on February 8 and a series of escalating threats on March 23.

In February, Walker had started arguing with his partner of four years after they rekindled their relationship.

It escalated to a him raising a fist at the victim.

She believed she was about to be assaulted.

The act resulted in an apprehended violence order being placed on Walker.

However, it was Walker’s March offending which Magistrate Jeff Linden said was particularly “disturbing”.

According to court facts, Walker subjected the woman to a series of increasing threats from the early morning to about 7.40pm.

It started with an argument during which Walker smashed the victim’s iPhone.

He then retrieved a 10L jerry can and yelled “I’ll burn down this house. I’ll burn us all” before threatening self harm.

According to court facts, the victim then left the premises but returned at 5pm to find Walker had shattered the glass dining tabletop and was shredding the her clothing with a knife.

Walker then again threatened to set the house and himself on fire, dousing his surroundings and his own body in petrol.

According to court facts, police then attended the scene but were threatened by Walker who began flicking a cigarette lighter.

Police evacuated a neighbouring home due to the serious nature of the threats.

Walker was arrested when he came out of the house half an hour later.

His solicitor Annabel Wurth said Walker had since attended The Buttery and Rekindling the Spirit rehabilitation programs.

“He reports zero desire to use illicit substances and alcohol,” she said.

She asked for a sentence with community supervision as he looked to move in with his grandmother.

Mr Linden said the March offending was serious and not spontaneous.

“It occurred as the result of an argument and it just went on and on and on,” he said.

“He threatened to burn the house down and indeed splashing the petrol caused the victim considerable angst.”

For that set of charges he convicted Walker and sentenced him to a 15-month intensive corrections order.

He labelled the February matters “similarly concerning” and sentenced Walker to another 15-month intensive corrections order, to be served at the same time as the first one.

Mr Linden also set in place a two-year apprehended violence order.
