A trio of women accused of savagely bashing Casino mother Jamikka Olive in a club toilet are fighting charges against them.
Ms Olive, 27, also known as Jamikka Binge, died about five weeks after the attack of unrelated causes. Police have not charged any of the three women with manslaughter or murder.
A local court heard on Thursday that police do not consider Ms Olive’s death “part of the proceedings”.
Police believe nothing links Ms Olive’s death to the alleged bashing and it was unlikely police would bring further charges.
One 21-year-old woman, who must be referred to only as “ZZ” due to a court order, has pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of others.
ZZ’s lawyer Amy Barker sought the non-publication order for the protection of the accused after claimed social media harassment.
Police allege ZZ assaulted Ms Olive at the Casino RSM Club on June 23, while in the company of the two co-accused.
The other two other women alleged to have been involved, 19-year-old Jahmali Mundine and 21-year-old Shakaya Drew have both pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company.
Ms Olive attended the club to support a fundraiser for the Bundjalung Baygals football team.
Police allege she was cornered in the women’s toilets between 10pm and 12am.
It’s alleged Ms Olive tried to escape, but ZZ dragged her back into the toilet by the hair and assaulted her.
Ms Olive ended up in hospital. The mum-of-two two died in an unrelated medical episode on July 28.
Ms Olive’s cause of death is yet to be confirmed, but her family have publicly called for further investigation.
ZZ will return to court in December, while Shakaya Drew and Jahmali Mundine will face the court next year.
