Trial date confirmed for Ballina man Jake Anthony Magri allegedly part of cross-border firearm and drug syndicate

Police will allege the man helped distribute military grade firearms throughout the syndicate’s illegal network that operated across NSW, Queensland and Victoria.

A Ballina man who police allege was involved in a massive cross-border drug and guns syndicate has had his district court trial date finalised.

Jake Anthony Magri, 28, was arrested in June 2020 and charged with multiple drug and firearm possession and supply charges in Ballina.

Police allege Mr Magri was involved in a high-level drug syndicate that operated in New South Wales, south east Queensland, and Victoria.

Police will allege military grade firearms were distributed throughout the syndicate’s illegal network.

On his first Lismore District Court mention on Friday, the court heard that Mr Magri’s 32 charges will progress in trial and sentence form.

Most notably, his one charge for manufacturing a prohibited drug in a large commercial quantity will progress to a half-day judge alone trial.

The court heard the trial will be dealt with via evidence submissions to the judge.

Judge Jeffrey McLennan listed the trial for arraignment on June 21.

It will then be adjourned to Judge Warwick Hunt for trial on July 16.

His other numerous charges including possessing an unauthorised pistol, knowingly dealing with the proceeds of crime and unauthorised supply of prohibited firearm will be listed for District Court mention also on June 21.

Mr Magri remains in custody.
