Stuart Rob Allan: East Lismore man accused of bushfire fraud fronts Lismore Local Court

Police allege the 34-year-old East Lismore man claimed he lost more than 3000 head of cattle during the 2019 bushfires and also applied for government grants.

One half of a husband-and-wife duo at the centre of an East Lismore bushfire compensation fraud will plead not guilty as the case progresses.

Stuart Rob Allan had his matters heard in Lismore Local Court on August 24.

It is alleged Mr Allan, alongside his wife Rebecca Jane Allan, claimed more than $75,000 dollars fraudulently through bushfire grant assistance and tried to claim compensation through insurance.

Police will allege in court the man claimed he lost more than 3000 head of cattle during the 2019 bushfires and attempted to claim compensation through an insurance company.

Mr Allan is also accused of applying for several NSW Government grant schemes for bushfire assistance.

In June 2020, officers from the Richmond Police District Rural Crime Prevention Team commenced Strike Force Munyana to investigate alleged fraudulent claims for grant money through a NSW Government scheme by a 34-year-old man and 33-year-old woman.

On Tuesday, Mr Allan made formal pleas of not guilty to 14 out of his 15 charges.

This included three counts of dishonestly obtaining property by deception, four counts of failing to comply with mandatory measures, three counts of using false documents to obtain financial advantage, dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception, recklessly dealing with crime proceeds over $5000, possessing or using a prohibited weapon without permit, goods suspected to be stolen in premises and possessing an unregistered firearm that isn’t a pistol.

Only his charge of knowingly dealing with the proceeds of crime remains without a formal plea.

His wife is yet to any enter formal pleas.

Mr Allan remains on bail on the condition he does not leave the Lismore or Casino areas.
His matter was adjourned until further mention on October 11 at Lismore Local Court.
