Negotiations over the case of a Northern Rivers man allegedly found with nearly 250 child abuse images on his phone will soon take place.

Solomon Dimitrius Adeonis Sebastian Canuto, 29, had his matters heard in Lismore Local Court on Wednesday, August 11.

In February 2019, NSW Police initiated an investigation after receiving information a man was filming children.

As part of their inquiries, police spoke to Mr Canuto and seized his mobile phone, which was examined by the Digital Forensic Investigation Unit.

Police will allege officers found 249 photographs of children in the Northern Rivers community, cartoon images and anime of children in sexual positions and adult pornographic images.

Canuto was charged with possessing and disseminating child abuse material and filming a person without their consent.

He has not entered any formal pleas.

Commonwealth DPP lawyer Steve Grodzicki told the court on Wednesday a charge certificate was filed overnight, with plans to begin case conference discussions.

The date organised for that was August 24, said Mr Grodzicki, and both parties were seeking an eight week adjournment.

Magistrate Michael Dakin adjourned Mr Canuto’s matter for further mention in Lismore Local Court on October 13.
