Sentence looms for Mark Richard John Kennedy charged with terrifying bowls club robbery

A Northern Rivers man charged with a terrifying break in at a bowls club could soon learn his fate.

Mark Richard John Kennedy fronted Lismore District Court on Monday, August 2 for arraignment over a 2019 Evans Head Bowling Club offence.

Kennedy pleaded guilty to the sole charge of break and enter, committed a serious indictable offence, namely robbery, armed with a dangerous weapon, namely a pistol.

Police will allege shortly after 9.10pm on Monday September 2, 2019, two male employees were at the club on Beech Street, Evans Head, when Kennedy broke through the front entry.

Kennedy and another man, dressed in dark clothing and hooded jumpers, with their faces covered, threatened the employees with a pistol.

The men were restrained before the offenders fled the scene with a sum of cash.

The two employees managed to free themselves and call police, with officers from Richmond Police District arriving a short time later and establishing a crime scene.

The court heard on Wednesday the matter would proceed to sentence.

A sentencing assessment report was also ordered.

Judge Jeffery McLennan adjourned the matter for sentence at Lismore District Court on November, 1.
