Sanctuary Point man arrested after Byron Bay pub assault

A father and son were taken to hospital after allegedly being attacked during a dispute with a 28-year-old man at a Byron Bay pub.

A South coast man has been charged with assault after a Byron Bay pub dispute turned ugly.

The 28-year-old Sanctuary Point man was arrested by police about 2am on Sunday after he allegedly assaulted a father and son at a Byron Bay licensed premises.

Tweed Byron Police District Chief Inspector Michael Dempsey said the father and son were taken to Byron Bay Local Hospital for treatment.

“There was some sort of dispute between the alleged offender and two males,” he said.

“As a result, the 28-year-old male has allegedly assault both victims, causing a number of lacerations and swelling to both their faces.”

The man was arrested and charged with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was refused bail and was due to appear before Lismore Local Court on Sunday.

Inspector Dempsey said the event was not Schoolies related and praised school leavers for their general good behaviour on Saturday night.
