Police warrant locates prohibited weapons cache including guns

A search warrant executed by police discovered prohibited firearms and weapons, including a shortened shotgun, silencer, ammunition, knuckle dusters and a flick knife and pharmaceutical medications, cannabis plants and a large quantity of gold jewellery.

Law-abiding residents of West Tweed Heads will be relieved to know that after executing a search warrant in this area, police took into custody a number of prohibited firearms and weapons.

Tweed Byron Police District Chief Inspector Mick Dempsey said on May 26, 2021, the haul of prohibited weapons included a shortened shotgun, a firearm silencer, ammunition, knuckle dusters and a flick knife.

“After a lengthy investigation and information provided to police the Tweed Byron Proactive Crime team with the assistance of Northern Rivers, Regional Enforcement Squad executed a search warrant on an address in West Tweed Heads,” he said.

“In addition to the firearms and weapons a quantity of pharmaceutical medications, cannabis plants and a large quantity of gold jewellery was also located.

“As a result of the police investigation and continued efforts of the Tweed Heads Police, a number of prohibited weapons and significant quantity of drugs have been removed from causing any danger to the community.”

Chief Inspector Dempsey said the arrest of a male person of interest involved the man being arrested and charged with multiple offences including firearms offences, drug and property related offences.

“The accused male was bail refused by Tweed Heads Local Court on the 26 May 2021,” he said.

Meanwhile, on May 27, 2021, his officers held a Tweed Heads and Kingscliff community Engagement event at Pottsville, Chief Inspector Dempsey said/.

“The Tweed Byron Crime Prevention Engagement vehicle and officers from Tweed Heads and Kingscliff including the Commander Superintendent Roptell, General Duties officers, Detectives, High Way Patrol and Crime Prevention Unit attended Coronation St, Pottsville for a community engagement to discuss issues of concern with the community and provide a free sausage sizzle for the community,” he said.

“The event was a great success with local community and tourists walking past and even the local daycare brought some of the kids up for the sausage sizzle.”

Tweed Byron Police District Chief Inspector Mick Dempsey said that at about 12.05am Sunday May 30, 2021 a 38 year old man from Brisbane entered a service station at Chinderah and has allegedly taken a packet of cigarettes.

“Staff have confronted the male who has removed a screw driver from his clothing and allegedly threatened staff before leaving the store,” he said.

“Police attended a short time later, locating the male and upon searching him have located the screwdriver and the cigarettes. \

“The male was arrested and conveyed to the Tweed Heads Police Station where he was charged with Robbery while med.

“He was refused bail to appear before Lismore Local Court Sunday May 30. 2021.”
