Police ask for community to help locate stolen number plates

Police ask anyone who may have dashcam footage showing a number plate theft from a car in Crane St, Ballina, to speak up.

Police are calling on the community to assist them to track down the person who callously stole a number plate from a vehicle owned by a 78-year-old woman in Ballina.

On Friday May 14, 2021, Richmond Police District Inspector Susie Johnson said officers were hoping the community would keep their eyes peeled.

“A number plate IM7UC was reported as having been stolen from a car parked in Crane St, Ballina,” Insp Johnson said.

“The vehicle is owned by a woman aged 78, and it appears the plates were stolen sometime between Tuesday 11 May and Thursday May 13.”

Insp Johnson said anyone with any information should contact the Ballina Police Station or call Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.

Meanwhile, Thursday May 13, saw relatively low numbers of crimes appear to have been committed, Insp Johnson said.

“Richmond Police District is pleased to report number an extremely limited number of crimes against people and property were reported overnight,” she said.

“Officers across the district, which includes Lismore, Ballina, Casino and Kyogle, are being very proactive with issues including bail compliance and violence order checks.

“Our high visibility policing will continue to be ongoing, including over the coming weekend.”
