Northern Rivers police have reiterated to residents that officers will not hesitate fining those found breaching Covid-19 restrictions.
As of Tuesday, July 13, there have been 89 new locally acquired cases in NSW, mostly stemming from a current Sydney cluster.
There are no recorded cases in Northern NSW though Covid-19 regulations are in place for businesses and residents across the region.
Posting on social media, Superintendent Scott Tanner, Richmond Police District said now was not the time for complacency for local residents.
“It’s evident most people in our community appreciate the seriousness of the situation – so to those people I say thank you for your compliance so far and please continue what you’re doing to keep us safe,” Superintendent Tanner said.
“To those who think they don’t have to stick to the rules – police are out and about conducting patrols and will not hesitate to give you a ticket.”
It comes as Commissioner Michael Fuller revealed on Monday that there were more than 3000 Covid-19 related calls made to Crime Stoppers over the weekend across the state.
In a statement Commissioner Fuller said there had been about 40,000 calls to Crime Stoppers since March last year about people concerned about Covid-19 behaviour and encouraged people to keep up such assistance.
“Police will continue to conduct business inspections with an additional focus of compliance with QR code requirements,” he said.
“While we have seen an improvement in the behaviour of people across NSW, particularly in terms of wearing masks and the other health orders, we ask the community continue to work with us over the coming weeks.”
Anyone who has information regarding individuals or businesses contravening a COVID-19 direction is urged to contact Crime Stoppers here.
