Richmond police allege a man wanted for domestic violence offences was so keen to escape arrest he was busted hiding under insulation in a roof following a foot chase.
But Owen Clayton Avery pleaded not guilty to assaulting police without actual bodily harm and four counts of hindering/resisting police when he faced Grafton Local Court on Monday.
Police alleged in a statement the 30-year-old man was being tracked down on Boronia Crescent, Casino for “outstanding domestic violence offences” about 2.40pm on Sunday.
It’s alleged Avery “successfully eluded police by fleeing through the rear of the property and jumping several fences”. .
“A police dog unit attended the location, and a track was commenced,” police state.
“The Police dog successfully tracked the suspect to a nearby residence, where the male was in the ceiling attempting to hide himself under the ceiling insulation.”
Police negotiated with Avery but it’s alleged he did not surrender and officers from the police rescue squad” were called in.
It’s alleged Avery resisted and spat at officers during his arrest.
Avery was taken from the ceiling and to Lismore Police Station, where he was denied bail.
He is due to face the court again at a later date.
