A MAN’S chivalrous act has been added to his criminal history after he was charged for attempting to shield his girlfriend from police.

Anthony William Thrupp fronted Roma Magistrates Court on Wednesday, facing a charge of obstructing a police officer within a licensed premises.

The court heard police were flagged down by patrons outside the Queen’s Arms Hotel where two females, surrounded by a group of people, engaged in a verbal argument before one threw three haymaker punches at the other.

When he saw police arresting his girlfriend, he tried to pull her from police while yelling “oi oi oi, that’s my missus”.

The court heard he ran into between them and kept attempting to pull her away, despite police telling him to stop his behaviour.

Thrupp’s lawyer told the court that despite his criminal history including a public nuisance offence in 2017, he was turning his life around and had been drug free for 18 months.

He pleaded guilty to the charge.

“I have to take into account your history which includes obstructing police, public nuisance and more serious matters,” Magistrate Blanch said.

Thrupp was fined $1200 with convictions recorded.
