Nerang man who allegedly raped a teenager at Lennox Head will face trial

A Queensland man who allegedly raped a teen girl in a Northern Rivers town will head to trial over the charges.

The 50-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had a committal mention in Lismore Local Court on Wednesday, June 30.

He is charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a victim under 16 and indecent assault of a person under 16.

According to court documents, the charges related to the alleged abuse of a 15-year-old girl in Lennox Head over the month of January 2018.

Police later arrested the man in Tweed Heads in November 2020.

While the man is yet to enter any formal pleas, his solicitor Anne-Alece Johnston noted all three matters were set to be committed for trial.

She added that due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, the man who resides in Nerang, was unable to travel to this week’s mention.

The matter was adjourned for arraignment on August 2 at Lismore District Court.

He is set to appear via videolink.
