A Lismore mum has landed in hot water after her son’s unusual park find saw her charged by police and saddled with a court date.
Sarah Lee Mair, 41, fronted Lismore Local Court on Monday, June 4, where she pleaded guilty to four charges, including possessing a prohibited weapon without permit, custody of a knife in a public place, and two charges of possessing a prohibited drug.
The court heard the mum of three was pulled over by police in April, where they found a taser, knife, OxyContin tablets, and a small amount of cannabis in her car.
Her solicitor Paul Cranney said Mair had confiscated the knife and taser from her 13-year-old son who found them in a skate park.
Mr Cranney also stated the three tablets of OxyContin were prescribed to Mair years ago but that she “couldn’t find the script”.
He explained the woman had been helping move her daughter to a new house when pain flared up and she ingested the pills.
“She suffers extreme back pain and has experienced significant and traumatic domestic violence,” he explained.
“She was stuck in the cycle for 20 years and he ran over her at one point.
“That has resulted in tendon nerve damage.”
Magistrate Jeff Linden acknowledged the possession of cannabis was small and the three other charges “fairly self-explanatory”.
Magistrate Linden convicted Mair on all four charges and sentenced her to a Conditional Release Order for a period of 12 months.
The order will expire on July 4, 2022.
