A child narrowly avoided harm after an engine part was thrown through their window during an “extremely intoxicated” man’s late night attack.

Kieren George Cotton, 27, was sentenced on April 28 at Lismore District Court for his destructive behaviour at a Goonellabah home on October 4, 2020.

The court heard between the hours of 12.30am and 3.15am, Cotton threw the engine part through the child’s bedroom, shattering the window and leaving glass lying in the room.

He also threw an unknown object at an exterior wall and damaged its panel.

All up the damage cost more than $2000.

Court documents show the residents of the property were known to Cotton and walked out following the attack where Cotton called the male occupant a “paedophile c***”.

His solicitor Rachael Thomas acknowledged the damage to property was “relatively serious” but said there was no suggestion Cotton knew it was a child’s bedroom.

She added Cotton was “extremely intoxicated at the time”.

Cotton was charged with intentionally or recklessly damaging/destroying property and driving with illicit substance cannabis in his system.

The drug charge was part of a separate RBT finding in Light St, Casino on August 2, 2020.

Magistrate Jeff Linden convicted Cotton without a sentence imposed for both charges.

He was also disqualified from driving for six months from April 28.
