A former Lismore man made shocking death threats to his parole officer, days before throwing a chair at a woman, a court has heard.

Allan Charles Bolt appeared via custody videolink before Lismore Local Court on Monday, July 19.

He plead guilty to two common assaults, threatening/intimidating a law officer, and damaging property.

The court heard the man made several serious threats towards his parole officer, who he was reporting to on the basis of an intensive corrections order.

According to Magistrate Jeff Linden, Bolt threatened to “stab the c**t, I’ll cut his throat and put him in the ground” while walking out of the reporting facility.

Solicitor Belinda O’Dwyer said the threats were spurred by the recent death of Bolt’s father but he understood they were “unpleasant and inappropriate”.

“He felt like this had been brewing for some time, he felt in particular, this officer wasn’t really helping him,” she said.

“He was meeting with the officer expressing his grief and difficulty functioning and said he wasn’t being met with any compassion at all.

“It wasn’t what he wanted to hear from someone meant to be supporting him.”

A short time after, Bolt also threw a chair at a woman at Mary’s Place, Ballina – a drop-in homeless support service.

Ms O’Dwyer said Bolt claimed the woman was “involved something not her business”.

Luckily, she was not seriously injured.

He was charged with further common assault when he spat at his partner, and gained the damage charge when he damaged the door where she was staying.

Ms O’Dwyer told the court Bolt had been out of work since the pandemic and blamed his attitude on growing up with 10 brothers and one sister.

“He tells me, ‘that’s why I am like what I am’,” she said.

She also stated he planned to move to Newcastle with his partner and three children though that would depend on the outcome of the Monday sentencing and if the parole board would let him regain an intensive corrections order.

Magistrate Jeff Linden convicted Bolt on all three counts and sentenced him to two months jail, to commence on June 5, 2021.

He will be eligible for parole on August 4.
