Man allegedly threatens to shoot neighbourhood dog with fake gun

Police were called to investigate after reports that the 47-year-old Lismore man was allegedly threatening to shoot his neighbour’s dog.

According to court documents, the charges related to a June 15 event where the South Lismore man was allegedly seen threatening to shoot his neighbour’s dog.

An informant relayed that information to police, who launched an investigation on June 17, finding several fake guns in Jacob’s home including an AR-15 gel blaster and replica Desert Eagle gel blaster.

During his Monday court appearance, his solicitor Natasha Wood noted Jacobs denied he was brandishing the guns or threatening to shoot a dog, but didn’t wish to press the dispute further.

Ms Wood said the former kung-fu teacher was given one gun as a gift and purchased the other through a gel blaster website, of which Jacobs was a member.

The Gold Coast store specialises in gel blaster gun and equipment and is legal under Queensland legislation.

In her submissions, Ms Wood noted Jacobs spent his spare time cleaning up garbage in the community.

Magistrate Jeff Linden convicted Jacobs on both charges and sentenced him to a 12-month Community Corrections Order.

Currently, the maximum penalty for possessing prohibited firearms, including gel blasters, without a proper licence or permit is 5 years jail in NSW.
