Lismore man Jaimee Linton, 30, appeals prison sentence after assaulting paramedic and partner

A northern NSW man is appealing a prison sentence after launching a vicious assault on a paramedic coming to his aid and for punching his partner in the face.

A Goonellabah man is appealing a prison sentence after launching a vicious assault on a paramedic coming to his aid and for punching his partner in the face.

Jaimee Linton, 30, pleaded guilty at Lismore Local Court on Monday to assaulting a frontline health worker without causing actual bodily harm, intimidating a frontline health worker without causing actual bodily harm and using offensive language near a public place.

He also pleaded guilty to possessing a prohibited drug, shoplifting, two counts of entering enclosed land that’s not a prescribed premises without a lawful excuse, assault causing actual bodily harm and two counts of having suspected stolen goods.

Police documents tendered to court state an ambulance was called to a Lismore tobacconist on Woodlark St on May 10, after receiving reports a man was unable to walk.

An ambulance intern and his work partner arrived to find Linton lying on the shop floor.

He refused to follow directions and became “argumentative” with the intern, police facts state.

Linton said he consumed a lot of alcohol and when the paramedics offered to put him on the stretcher he said: “Just arrest me.”

He then lunged at the intern. Paramedics dialled triple-0 and Linton “punched the victim multiple times” in the ribs before officers arrived.

The intern pushed Linton to the ground in self-defence.

When he saw the officers he asked: “What the f--k are you doing here?”

Linton was arrested and continued to threaten the victim.

“I’m going to smash your head in when you’re off duty c--t, you just wait til I smash your head in,” he said.

Linton was taken to Lismore Police Station and found with 3.11 grams of cannabis.

Roughly one month later, Linton was walking along Molesworth St, Lismore with his partner, police facts state.

He asked his partner for money several times, which was denied by the victim.

“While the victim was facing another direction, Linton punched him in the face,” police facts continue.

This caused bleeding inside the victim’s mouth.

A few days later the victim called police to help him remove Linton from his home.

Officers arrived and heard Linton apologise to the victim for punching him, police facts state.

Linton refused to get into the back of the police car and said to an officer: “I’ll chop you up”.

He was arrested and taken to the police station.

Officers found a suspected stolen deodorant on Linton, which was labelled ‘tester’.

Linton was issued with an apprehended violence order (AVO) to protect the victim.

Police checks confirmed he also breached his ban from entering the Lismore Square Shopping Centre after visiting the bank in the complex.

Magistrate Michael Dakin convicted Linton and sentenced him to one year imprisonment with a non-parole period of seven months.

He is expected to appeal his sentence on August 23.
