Police fear fatal car crash suspects ‘comitted other crimes’

The suspects in a car crash that killed two people are believed to have made a stop in Dalby, allegedly committing another crime before the fatal crash.

THE suspects accused of stealing a car and causing a deadly head-on crash in north Brisbane are believed to have started their alleged crimespree in Dalby days before the horror smash.

Driver, Jordan Cubby 28, front-seat passenger and Toowoomba man, John William Weatherall, 32, and injured back-seat passenger Shantel Lucas - are alleged to have stolen a car from Toowoomba last Tuesday before allegedly causing a deadly crash that killed innocent Brisbane man, Shahid Islam, 36, in north Brisbane.

Front-seat passenger, Mr Weatherall was also killed in the two-vehicle crash, backseat passenger Lucas was injured while the driver, Mr Cubby, allegedly attempted to flee the scene before he was arrested.

Dalby Police senior sergeant Terry McCullough told Newscorp the trio allegedly stole another car from a Dalby woman while she was playing tennis at the Dalby Tennis Club days before the horror smash in Brisbane.

Snr sgt McCullough said police will allege the trio walked into the club house at 7.55pm on October 10, and stole the 50-year-old woman's handbag which was lying on a table.

Using the documents inside the woman's handbag, it is alleged the trio located her home on the Bunya Highway before using her car keys to steal her white 2013 Holden Cruise.

Snr sgt McCullough said the car was later located in Toowoomba.

Mr Cubby is still recovering in hospital and has been charged with evasion, unlawful use of motor vehicle, serious assault of police officer and dangerous operation of a vehicle causing grievous bodily harm or death while excessively speeding.

Newscorp understands Mr Lucas is still recovering in hospital after undergoing surgery after the crash.
