A man allegedly involved in a shooting near Nimbin, which saw a teenage girl almost lose her left hand, has fronted Lismore District Court.

Jordan Close, 24, appeared in Lismore District Court on Monday via video link from Goulburn Correctional Centre.

Mr Close was accused of being involved in a shooting which saw a 19-year-old girl almost lose her left hand due to the damage.

It‘s alleged the 24-year-old shot the woman in her left hand while they were driving at Lillian Rock on April 19, 2020.

She fled the vehicle and was later taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane for emergency surgery.

Mr Close was arrested three days later in Terranora following two dramatic police pursuits through the Tweed Shire, where at one point it was alleged, he was driving 140km/h in an 80km/h zone along Dulguigan Rd, Murwillumbah.

Mr Close was charged with discharging a firearm with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm, damaging more than $15,000 worth of property by fire, intentionally causing a fire and being reckless as to its spread, and hindering a police investigation.

On Monday, the court heard the Crown prosecution intended to add two new charges to Mr Close’s case.

They did not specify what those charges would be.

Given that, Mr Close’s solicitor Rachael Thomas asked for an adjournment in the proceedings.

“It is my understanding he intends to plea to one or the other alternate count,” she said.

The matter was adjourned until June 28 before Lismore District Court.
