Jayden Hunt attacks Madix Wells in Lismore McDonald’s car park in dispute over money owed for BMW

A dispute over money owed for a BMW came to a head in a Lismore McDonalds car park. Here’s how the feud escalated into violence.

An “impulsive” young man punched another fellow in the face in Lismore McDonald’s car park in a dispute over money.

Jayden Hunt, 21, of Lismore, was sentenced at Lismore Local Court on Monday for robbery, common assault and attempting to intimidate or cause physical or mental harm.

Madix Wells had just finished a meal at McDonald’s on Brewster St in Lismore about 12pm on November 12.

Mr Wells was listening to music on his Nokia G10 phone in the , when he noticed a white sedan pull up in the parking spot near him about 12pm on November 12.

An unknown man sitting in the front passenger seat of the car asked Mr Wells what music he was playing.

Mr Wells walked up to the car and showed the passenger the album cover on his phone screen.

The passenger then asked for Mr Well’s name and once he provided it, he was told that Hunt was in the back seat of the car, the court heard.

Mr Wells walked away from the car back to where his skateboard was in the as Hunt emerged from the vehicle and approached him.

“Where’s my money?” Hunt said.

Mr Wells purchased a BMW E90 from Hunt for $1700 about ten months beforehand.

Mr Wells transferred Hunt $1200 and still owed him $500 because the vehicle had not been signed over yet, police documents state.

Mr Wells told Hunt he didn’t have any money and couldn’t access the bank on his phone.

“Hunt demanded that (Mr Wells) gave him his personal mobile phone multiple times,” the documents state.

Hunt reached to take the phone from Mr Wells’ pocket, but Mr Wells grabbed Hunts’ hand to prevent the phone being taken.

Hunt punched Mr Wells in the jaw and stole the phone.

He demanded the phone’s password as he walked back to the car.

Mr Wells feared he would be attacked again by either Hunt or the other people in the car, so he gave Hunt the passcode, police state.

Mr Wells walked to Autobahn where he asked for help and phoned police.

Officers arrived and did not see any visible injuries on Mr Wells face. He declined to provide a written statement.

The incident was captured on CCTV in McDonald’s car park.

Police spotted Hunt and arrested him on November 15.

Hunt, who has an extensive criminal history, behaved “impulsively” on the day of the attack, the court heard.

Magistrate Jeff Linden convicted Hunt and sentenced him to a two-year community corrections order with supervision.
