A Goonellabah man was unable to hide his dishonesty from CCTV cameras when he stole from a Lismore business, a court has heard.

Harry John Walker, 54, pleaded guilty in Lismore Local Court on Monday to larceny.

According to court facts, Walker stole the $454 amp jump pack from Repco Lismore about 10.45am on June 10.

CCTV footage showed Walker splitting up with a co-accused and walking through the Union St store before finding the display containing the jump starter packs.

According to court facts, Walker pushed the item down the front of his pants and covered it with his shirt.

He was later arrested on September 9.

Solicitor Tess McLinden said the offending was “unplanned and opportunistic”.

“He can’t explain why he took the jump starter leads,” she said.

She further said Walker had a long history of property-related offending.

“It is conceded his record is extensive and dates back to when he was a child,” she said.

Ms McLinden said Walker had “fairly” poor health but had been abstinent from drugs and alcohol for two years.

Magistrate Jeff Linden said Walker was seen quite clearly removing the item and hiding it in his pants.

Mr Linden convicted Walker and sentenced him to a 12-month intensive corrections order.

He also ordered he pay back $454 in compensation to Repco.
