Sirens were heard across Lismore over the weekend as a burnt orange Commodore allegedly fled from police on Oliver Ave at more than 30km/h over the speed limit – crashing into a Dalwood property less than 30 minutes later.
A 32-year-old Holden Commodore driver has been charged after a police pursuit in Goonellabah ended with his car crashing through a Dalwood property, and police allegedly finding drugs and a knife in the car.
About 9.45pm on Friday, Richmond Valley police attempted to stop a Holden Commodore on Oliver Street, Goonellabah because of the manner of driving.
Police will allege the vehicle failed to stop, with an eyewitness describing two paddy wagons and a highway patrol car chasing a burnt orange Commodore.
But police said the pursuit had to be called off soon after it began for safety reasons.
Police say the same Commodore crashed through a property on Wardell Road, Dalwood about 10.10pm.
Officers will allege they found a knife and marijuana inside the Commodore, before taking the driver to Lismore Base Hospital in a stable condition for treatment and mandatory drug testing.
The driver was charged with dangerous driving and not stopping during a police pursuit, driving recklessly, possessing a prohibited drug, having custody of a knife in a public place, speeding more than 30km/h above the speed limit and incorrectly displaying P1 licence P-plates.
The man is due to appear before Lismore Local Court on Wednesday November 23.
