Former Ballina teacher charged with historic sexual assault
Officers allege a female student was sexually assaulted between the ages of 13 to 16, as the 66-year-old man was extradited from Queensland.

A former Ballina man has been extradited from Queensland and charged over an alleged historical sexual assault of a student.
In March 2021, officers from Richmond Police District commenced an investigation into reports a female student was allegedly sexually assaulted between the ages of 13 to 16, by a teacher between 1981 and 1983.
Following extensive investigations, detectives from Queensland Police arrested a man, now aged 66, at a home in Morayfield in Queensland about 5.40pm on Tuesday, May 25.
The man appeared at Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on Wednesday, May 26, where detectives applied for and were granted their extradition to NSW.
The man was escorted back to NSW on Wednesday and taken to Lismore Police Station where he was charged with 11 counts of sexual assault of a person under 16 years of age and carnal knowledge by a teacher of a girl aged more than 10 and less than 17 years.
He is due to appear at Lismore Local Court on Thursday.
