Ballina man to face sentence and trial for allegedly being a part of a cross-border firearm and drug syndicate

A Ballina man who police allege was involved in a massive cross-border drug and guns syndicate could soon face District Court.
Jake Anthony Magri, 28, was arrested in June 2020 and charged with multiple drug and firearm possession and supply charges in Ballina.
Police allege Mr Magri was involved in a high-level drug syndicate that operated in New South Wales, south east Queensland, and Victoria.
Police will allege military grade firearms were distributed throughout the syndicate’s illegal network.
On a further committal mention this Wednesday at Lismore Local Court, the DPP prosecutor asked Magistrate Jeff Linden if Mr Magri’s matters could progress in both a trial and sentence form.
Mr Magri had a substantial 32 charges listed before the Lismore court.
According to the DPP prosecutor, most will proceed in Lismore District Court for sentencing, including alleged supply of prohibited firearms; supply of a commercial quantity of prohibited drugs; possession of counterfeit money and more.
However, one count of alleged manufacturing of a prohibited drug in a large commercial quantity will head towards a Lismore District Court trial instead.
Magistrate Linden ordered both the arraignment for the trial date and further sentence mention to come before Lismore District Court on June 21.
Mr Magri remains in custody.
He has not entered any formal pleas.
