Alleged gel blaster, firearms collector set for sentence

A 27-year-old Northern Rivers man will be sentenced after he admitted to owning a variety of weapons.

A Tweeds Heads man has pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing unregistered firearms found during a police raid.

Ashley Sinclair Hulse, 27, appeared via videolink in the Lismore District Court on Monday August 17 for his first mention over the firearms related charges.

Police allege during a search warrant at a unit on Margaret St on September 4, 2020, they found three operational gel blaster hand guns – an item legal in Queensland but not New South Wales ‒ a large amount of firearms parts, a canister of Oleoresin Capsicum spray, a mobile phone containing significant communications relating to drug supply, 14 Suboxone strips and a laser pointer.

Hulse faces six charges and pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing more than three unregistered firearms and one is prohibited or a pistol, on Monday.

He is yet to enter formal pleas for supplying prohibited drugs and using a prohibited weapon without permit.

Judge Jeffrey McLennan listed the three guilty charges for sentence on November 4.

The two other charges were listed for mention on that date.

Hulse remains in custody.
