Alessandro Trombin accused of raping woman after Byron Bay New Years Eve party in 2021

A Brunswick Heads man has faced a Lismore court charged with raping a woman during Byron Bay New Year’s Eve celebrations.

It’s alleged the woman was sexually assaulted during New Year’s Eve celebrations in the northern NSW tourist hub of Byron Bay.

A Brunswick Heads man has denied raping a woman after a Byron Bay New Years Eve party.

Alessandro Trombin, 33, is on trial in Lismore District Court charged with two counts of sexual intercourse without consent (domestic violence).

Police allege Trombin had sexual intercourse with a woman without her consent, knowing she was not consenting on January 1, 2021.

The woman was watching New Year’s Eve fireworks after a night of drinking before she rode home on her bicycle on December 31, 2020, the court heard.

The Byron Bay woman alleges she woke up with Trombin in her bed on New Year's Day.

She went to work the next day, where one of her colleagues told the court the complainant was “really flat, she wasn’t her normal self.”

Trombin’s DNA was found in the woman, the court heard.

However, Trombin denies having sexualing intercourse without consent.

Trombin told the court he had been intimate with the complainant earlier in the year.

He alleged on a previous occasion while they were out at the Railway Friendly Bar in Byron, the complainant told him: “I suck your d--k”.

He told the court the they “French kissed” at the venue after a few drinks, before going back to her place and having sex.

He told the court they had remained on friendly terms since the consensual encounter.

The trial continues.
