Two Northern Rivers households have been caught out hosting parties during lockdown, sparking a weekend compliance blitz.
On Friday August 20, about 7pm, a South Golden Beach household was busted hosting a gathering with seven people fined $1000.
Tweed Byron Police District Chief Inspector Mick Dempsey said the accused stated they were having a dinner party.
“Police are regularly getting notified of breaches of public health orders,” he said.
“In these times, it is not OK to visit for dinner parties.”
Police were further notified of another breach at Tweeds Heads on Saturday August 21.
About 8.30pm, police were called to the address in relation to a noise complaint.
Upon arrival, police found 10 people, clearly in breach of the Public Health Order, allegedly celebrating a birthday party.
All 10 were fined $1000.
Chief Inspector Dempsey said police would continue their crackdown amid a reported border protest planned for this Sunday, August 22.
“Police resources will be available to deal with any unlawful gathering,” he said.
“People are to be reminded there is a limit of groups of two to be exercising outdoors.
“A breach of this order will incur a $3000 penalty infringement notice.”
