MORE than 1500 students, adults and community members joined the School Strike 4 Climate in Lismore.

CHANTS to stop the Adani Mine, calls for more appropriate climate action and pleas for governments to listen were just some of the words coming from students' mouths as they marched for climate action in Lismore.

More than 1500 students, adults and community members joined the School Strike 4 Climate at the Quad in Lismore on Friday to call on the government to make changes in order to protect the environment.

Trinity Catholic College Year 11 student and Lismore climate march organiser Arky Ryall said she was worried about the impact politicians were having on future generations.

"I'm worried for my future, for the future of my children and I'm worried for the future of their future," she said.

"We're sending a clear message to our teachers, our parents, our peers and our politicians that we want to see climate action and we want to see it now.

"We want to stop the Adani Coal Mine, we want to say no to new coal and gas projects and we want to move to 100 per cent renewable projects by 2030."

While there's been plenty of criticism made about the student strike, with many politicians and people on social media stating students should be holding the protest outside of school hours, Arky said doing it during school time was a way to show adults that children mean business.

"There's so much as a community we can do," Arky said.

"It's important for me to have my voice heard because I can't vote, I'm only 16.

"I think it's important because it's my future the choices that are made should reflect the choices I would like to be making and this is the only way I can make my voice heard."

Meanwhile, Trinity Catholic College student Marie McKenna, 15, said she joined the protest today to prove to politicians they needed to listen to the next generation and start taking action against climate change.

"I'm so sick of politicians not paying attention," she said.

"They're not paying attention to what we need or what we want."
