Firefighters and paramedics at car crash fire in Goonellabah

Firefighters and paramedics rushed to the scene of a dramatic crash at Goonellabah earlier today.

Update 10AM: Firefighters have extinguished a blaze which ripped through a car after it crashed into an electrical box at Goonellabah earlier today.

Goonellabah Fire & Rescue Deputy Captain Jody Hinds said the vehicle caught fire after it struck the residential electrical box.

“The vehicle, a red Ford sedan, was travelling up Oliver Ave in an easterly direction,” he said.

“The vehicle swerved to avoid a vehicle leaving a premises which caused the vehicle (on Oliver Ave) to hit a ‘No Stopping’ sign and crash into a residential power kiosk on the nature strip.

“The car ended way up a retaining wall.”

Act Captain Hinds said firefighters used foam to extinguish the car fire and waited for the electrical company to arrive to isolate the power.

“The driver was out and treated by the ambulance crews and there were no serious injuries,” he said.

“We are now clearing up the road which should be open again shortly.”

Original story: Paramedics and other emergency services crews are currently on scene of a two vehicle crash which occurred in Goonellabah on Wednesday morning.

Ambulance NSW confirmed they were called to the incident on Oliver Ave near Simeoni Dve, Goonellabah, around 8.30am.

There are currently two ambulance crews in attendance at the incident.

It is understood that injuries to those involved are minor and so far no-one requires transportation.

Ambulance NSW said they were alerted to the incident by a call from a passer-by.

Paramedics are treating one man in his 70s, Ambulance NSW said.

It is understood police are also in attendance.

Drivers are urged to allow for extra travel time and to avoid the area.
