Overnight temperatures set to drop after a mild start to May

It has been a pretty mild May so far, but temperatures are set to drop in coming days. So how cold is it going to get?

Winter is coming, so it is going to get cold, but relatively mild overnight temperatures experienced so far this month means the sudden drop over coming days might be more keenly felt.

The temperature overnight (Friday) dropped to 8.5C, that’s more than two degrees colder than any other night this year, and it will continue to drop.

The Bureau of Meteorology predicts overnight temperatures on the Northern Rivers will drop to between 3-8C on Monday.

While the flannie sheets and woollen warmers will definitely be needed, it’s still more pleasant than Lismore’s lowest minimum temperature, recorded on May 30, 1967 – minimum temperatures dropped to -1C.

Lismore’s coldest daytime temperature so far this year was recorded on May 5, when temperatures dropped to 17.1, and it only reached 16.5C in Casino.

The coldest Lismore daytime temperature in May was recorded in 1967 when the temperature was 15.2C.

The Northern Rivers was in for a mostly sunny weekend, with daytime temperatures in the high teens to low 20s.

More showers were forecast across the region from Tuesday.
