OPINION: I’ve twice been rejected by the NBN

IT'S A race between the NBN and duplication of the Pacific Highway to see which project is ready by 2020

I FEEL like I'm an NBN reject.

Like a lot of you, I thought I'd go on to the NBN's site and check whether I could get it at my home address.

Even though I live 10km from one of the main highways in Australia and within direct sight of every antenna and tower in existence, I received this response:

"Don't worry, we are planning to come to you. We're working with local governments on the design and deployment of the network for each area. You can register to be notified when the nbn™ network is available at your address."

So I decided I would register as I'd genuinely like to be kept up to date on the NBN's snail-like progress to my home.

I was rejected again. Apparently, there is no number three in the street where I live.

This could have something to do with the fact that I live in a new house. When I say 'new', it's coming up to two years that we've lived there.

Makes you wonder how out of date the information is that NBN is relying on for its roll-out actually.

We are told the NBN should be coming in earnest to our region by the end of next year. Forgive me for feeling slightly under- whelmed.

2017 will mark 10 years since Kevin Rudd was elected partly on his NBN roll-out promise and seven years since construction of the broadband network began.

It's due to be substantially completed by 2020.

It is a race between the NBN and duplication of the Pacific Highway to see which much hyped infra- structure finishes first.
