A wall of flashing emergency services lights and water lines could be seen as authorities raced to contain a spectacular fire at the Casino rail yards overnight.
At least seven Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) appliances, supported by Rural Fire Service trucks and a bulk water tanker, responded to the blaze on Bent St about 1.30am.
The inferno destroyed an old coal tower, forcing disruptions to the Brisbane-Sydney rail corridor.
The timber structure was engulfed by flames and dramatically collapsed, leaving only the steel skeleton standing.
Fire crews set up an exclusion zone and formed a defensive line using hoses as the tower fell.
The northern rail line was closed as a precaution as firefighters mopped up and extinguished spot fires.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
