The 2021 NSW Local Government elections will be held on Saturday, December 4 but early voting will open from Monday, November 22.
Any person enrolled to vote may vote by pre-poll.
NSW Electoral Commissioner John Schmidt said applications for postal voting were already open.
“Voters can plan when, where and how they’ll vote using information available on the NSW Electoral Commission website at elections.nsw.gov.au,” he said.
“Whether it’s their nearest polling place, candidate information or options for voting early, NSW voters can find everything they need to know at our website with a quick search of their enrolled address.”
Mr Schmidt said for the first time all voters would be eligible to vote in person during the pre-poll period.
In another first, iVote internet and telephone voting will be available at local government elections for electors meeting strict eligibility criteria.
“All polling places will be run in line with Covid-safe election guidelines including mask wearing and physical distancing,” he said.
“Voters can bring their own pens and must check in using the Service NSW QR codes and follow any NSW Health advice.”
Mr Schmidt said voting is compulsory for all enrolled electors and there are penalties for not voting.
The full list of candidates have been published for Northern NSW areas including Lismore, Byron Shire, Ballina, Tweed, Clarence Valley and Coffs Harbour.
To apply for a postal vote you can either apply online or download and return a postal vote application.
Only one postal application must be completed per person.
On election day, if a council is divided into wards, residents must vote at a polling place within their enrolled ward.
Use the address search, to find the council or ward page that matches the address.
If you have moved to a new area since you last voted, you should check your enrolment and update your address if necessary.
