Lismore Show Society president John Gibson is thrilled to have a strong field of young women vying to represent the North Coast region at the Sydney Royal Agricultural Show.
Contestants from Lismore, Alstonville, Casino, Bangalow, Maclean, Coffs Harbour, Kempsey, Taree and Gloucester will be at the Lismore Workers Club on Saturday for the regional final.
Mr Gibson said that was a great result considering the numerous setbacks to events that had been caused by the pandemic over the past two years.
Show Societies throughout NSW enter more than 200 young women in local competitions every year that culminate in a winner being crowned Sydney Royal Ag Shows NSW Young Woman of the year.
Lismore’s Ellie Stephens took home the prestigious honour in 2015.
Since the establishment of the competition in 1962, contestants have been judged on the same values and prerequisites; personality, confidence, ambition and life goals, general knowledge, rural knowledge, presentation and speech.
The women are also asked to demonstrate knowledge of their local community and current affairs and are also judged on their involvement in and experience of rural affairs.
