The family of a North Coast mum bashed in a club toilet before dying of a medical episode weeks later have called on NSW Police leadership to attend a community meeting so residents can voice concerns.

Jamikka Binge-Olive’s relatives want to speak to state police and presumably current Commissioner Karen Webb about crime and the effectiveness of police in the town of Casino, near Lismore.

A police spokesman said officers continue to meet with relevant parties to provide support and the matter was under investigation.

“As the matter is now subject to a Coronial investigation police will not be commenting further,” he said.

A Change.org petition has been launched by Ms Binge-Olive’s aunt, Noelene Binge.

The 27-year-old mother was attacked by a group in a toilet at the Casino Returned Services Memorial Club on June 23 last year.

She tragically suffered a medical episode and died five weeks later. Authorities have deemed the episode as unrelated to the bashing which resulted in legal action.

In August, 150 people marched through Casino to demand “justice” for Ms Binge-Olive.

Since her death, Ms Binge-Olive’s family have repeatedly and publicly questioned the medical care the young mum was given and how first responders handled her situation.

Ms Noelene Binge states online police “failed to take action” and she more widely criticises authorities.

“Casino and its surrounding areas are suffering due to escalating crime rates, violence, drug and alcohol abuse,” she writes.

“The community is crying out for help but it seems our pleas fall on deaf ears when it comes to our local police force.

“We need change now.”

Ms Binge wants a “NSW police commander” to attend a meeting to allow residents to speak “about this lack of accountability directly”.

“We want … safety for our community members who live in fear of becoming the next victim,” she writes.

“Let’s demand that they (the police) do their jobs effectively so that no other family has to suffer like ours did.”

A trio of women were charged with being involved in bashing Ms Binge-Olive.

Police have not charged any of them with manslaughter, murder or causing Ms Binge-Olive’s death, and officers have told a court they believe nothing links the death to the bashing.

One 21-year-old woman, who must be referred to only as “ZZ” due to a court order, has been convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of others and intimidation.

She was sentenced to 14-months imprisonment in the community on an intensive correction order.

The other two other women alleged to have been involved, 19-year-old Jahmali Mundine and 21-year-old Shakaya Drew, have both pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company.

The pair are due to face court later in the year.
